The ink paintings were created through AI-inspired research. AI is used here as a creative tool, so to speak. Different AI platforms were initially tried out for this project and finally https://stablediffusionweb.com was chosen with the free version. Stable Diffusion is an AI image generator, an open-source software that generates digital images based on prompts, i.e. text instructions. It was developed by Stability AI and released in August 2022.

Stable Diffusion does not claim any rights to the generated images and grants users the rights of use for all images generated from the model, provided that the image content is not illegal or harmful to persons. The freedom granted to users to use the images has led to controversy over the ethics of ownership, as Stable Diffusion and other generative models are trained using copyrighted images without the owner's consent.

The artist subsequently created prompts for well-known internationally recognized art and design personalities, but also for materials, famous politicians or artists and designers of the past and present; both with the additional prompt 'Rollator'. A total of 223 images were generated. The research question here was whether AI can generate ideas, such as what a rollator in the style of Calvin Klein, the University of Applied Arts Vienna, Harris Bar, Atelier Lieshout etc. would look like. The artist had already made sketches of various rollators inspired by designers such as Gerrit Thomas Rietveld or Gaetano Pesce.

The images were then evaluated and some were selected to inspire the ink paintings and the transfer print.

The first works were created for Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani and many more.
